Tukwila Bucket Truck Training - The Vehicle-Mounted Aerial Work Platform or bucket truck training program is designed to lessen the risk of incident and personal injury while working with or in close proximity to bucket trucks by effectively training qualified operators. An aerial lift device is any vehicle-mounted device, telescoping or articulating, or both, that is utilized to position employees to reach spots which will otherwise be unreachable. Aerial lift devices are used to be able to elevate workers to above-ground work sites.

The goal of the program is to provide operators with the skills, knowledge, abilities, and training materials required to be able to learn to operate vehicle-mounted aerial work platforms effectively and safely.

The program has two portions: a classroom training session and a hands-on training session. In order to become certified, participants must be successful in both parts. A full-size certificate and a wallet-size certificate will be given upon finishing the program.

Types of lifts include extensible boom platforms, articulating boom platforms, vertical towers, aerial ladders and aerial ladder trucks and any combination of these devices. Aerial lift devices are often made of wood, metal, reinforced plastic, fiberglass or other materials.

Definitions
Articulating boom platform: has two or more hinged boom components.
Extensible boom platform: has either an extensible boom or a telescopic boom.
Platform: the part of an aerial device that is designed to carry workers.
Mobile unit: any aerial device together with its components like for example vehicle and related equipment.

Workers who work with aerial devices have the responsibility of making certain that they are correctly authorized and trained. Workers should make sure that people who are not authorized and trained do not use lift devices. Workers should make certain that they put on the correct protective equipment while working from the platform.

Course content comprises operating the vehicle-mounted aerial work platform, pre-shift inspection, safe operating practices, use of emergency controls, lifting capacity, and administering theory and practical tests. Operators will know legal requirements under the local and federal regulations.
